County Kilkenny (Contae
Chill Chainnigh in Irish) is situated in the southeast
of Ireland. It is named after Kilkenny, the main city
in the region. It belongs to the province of Leinster
and its main city and capital is Kilkenny city. It is
famous for its history, nightlife and medieval buildings.
Kilkenny was the seat of the Medieval Irish Parliaments
and is often known as the Marble City', as most
of the medieval structures are well preserved. A large
number of Norman castles and abbeys make Kilkenny one
of Ireland's most historic counties. Kilkenny is rich
in heritage including many historical sites, breathtaking
landscapes and a huge artistic tradition. This is why
the county is considered as one of the major tourist
destinations. Night Life in Kilkenny is second to none
with some of Irelands top pubs and clubs and an 'atmosphere'
which makes Kilkenny one of Irelands most popular week
end destination.
